Start small
Begin with three to five minutes. Give yourself a little space to settle, without trying to make the session perfect.

Simple ways to settle in and find a practice that feels comfortable.
01
Begin with three to five minutes. Give yourself a little space to settle, without trying to make the session perfect.
02
Choose a quiet spot and sit on a chair or cushion. Let your shoulders soften and rest your hands comfortably.
03
Notice the natural rhythm of breathing. Feel each breath arrive and leave, without forcing it to change.
04
A wandering mind is part of the practice. Notice a thought with kindness, then bring your attention back to your breath.
05
Choose a familiar moment, such as after your morning tea. A short practice you return to can become a welcome part of your day.
06
A gentle voice can help you stay focused when you're starting out. Search for beginner breathing meditations, body scans, or guided relaxation.
07
Some days your mind will feel peaceful; other days it may feel busy. Both are normal. Focus on showing up consistently rather than achieving a particular feeling.
Carry it into your day
Before you finish, think of something you appreciate. Take a few easy breaths and choose one quality you would like to bring into your day. Return to your surroundings gently.
You can do this right now, wherever you are.
Minute 1 — Settle in. Close your eyes if comfortable, relax your jaw, drop your shoulders, and feel your feet supported.
Minute 2 — Breathe. Gently breathe in for about 4 seconds and out for about 5–6 seconds, without forcing your breath. Return to your natural rhythm if uncomfortable.
Minute 3 — Notice. Feel your chest or belly move. When thoughts arise, acknowledge them and return to breathing.
Minute 4 — Connect with gratitude. Bring to mind one person, experience, or simple thing you appreciate. Notice what gratitude feels like in your body.
Minute 5 — Set an intention. Ask yourself, "How do I want to show up in my life today?" Sit quietly for a few breaths, then gently open your eyes.
Different styles serve different purposes.
Best for calming a busy mind and building focus.
Best for practising appreciation, compassion, and emotional balance.
Best for noticing tension and developing body awareness.
Best for exploring intentions, goals, and the person you want to become.
