Your wedding questions

Can we write our own vows?

Yes, we can discuss personal vows, readings and ways to tell your story. Your ceremony must also include the legal declarations and pronouncement required in Ontario.

What paperwork do we need?

You need a valid Ontario marriage licence, or valid banns documentation where applicable, before the ceremony. A marriage licence is valid for three months from its issue date. Bring the original documentation and use your full legal names. See Ontario’s marriage information for current requirements.

Do we need witnesses?

Both partners and at least two witnesses must be present. You, your witnesses and your officiant sign the required marriage documentation immediately after the ceremony.

Is the ceremony record our marriage certificate?

The record of solemnization is different from an official Ontario marriage certificate. You apply for the official certificate through the government after the marriage has been registered. Learn about marriage certificates.

What are your fees, and how do we reserve a date?

Contact me with your ceremony date, venue and preferred style for a quote. Your agreed services, fees, travel and booking policies are recorded in Schedule A. The date is reserved once all parties sign the agreement and the required retainer or first payment has cleared.

Can we have an outdoor ceremony or a rehearsal?

Tell me about your venue and rehearsal plans. We’ll confirm travel, access, weather backup and any rehearsal arrangements in your agreement.
